This year’s recital is named after a line that begins a famous monologue from William Shakespeare’s play,  As You Like It. This was chosen in a time when an awareness for the planet’s health and our own well-being grows in all the communities around the world.  Hopefully you can take this global tour with us and find out what makes our planet so unique and why it’s worth more than any gem or mineral we can pull from the ground.

Like last year, our Recital will be held at Felix Varela Senior High School located at 15255 SW 96th Street. For tickets to the show, please visit us at the Roxy Performing Arts Center.

As always, this Recital promises to be more than just a showcase of classes, with students participating in innovative and entertaining performance pieces from dancing to acting, singing to tumbling and everything in between.

And all the men and women merely players;
They have their exits and their entrances;
And one man in his time plays many parts,
His acts being seven ages. At first the infant,

Based on the classic fairy tale, “The Princess and the Pea,” by Hans Christian Andersen, Once Upon A Mattress is a fun light-hearted musical with music by Mary Rodgers, lyrics by Marshall Barer and book by Jay Thompson, Marshall Barer and Dean Fuller.

Gala Fundraiser: There will be a cocktail reception and after-show party on Saturday, July 24, 2010 and tickets are $50. All proceeds benefit RTG’s Student Scholarship Fund.

An enchanting musical comedy infused with love, magic and plenty of zany adventures, Once Upon a Mattress, features a cast of 35 students, ages 10-22, and an orchestra of students from the Greater Miami Youth Symphony (GMYS), a non-profit organization dedicated to training young musicians.

The Roxy Theatre Group held auditions for its Voice Team on Monday, August 9 @ 6PM.

• Prepare 16 bars of a Broadway musical
• Accompaniment CD is suggested, but NOT required
• Last year’s Team Members DO NOT need to re-audition

AUDITIONS HELD

On Saturday, August 28, the Roxy Theatre Group hosted its annual auditions to join the Roxy Drama Troupe, members of which will be cast in a holiday production of A Christmas Carol, working to raise funds for a Haiti relief effort.

This adaptation of a A Christmas Carol will play here at the Roxy Performing Arts Center from early to mid-December this year and will be directed by Phillip M. Church, Professor of Theatre, Department of Theatre, Florida International University.

In association with the FIU Hope for Haiti Relief Fund, Professor Church and the Roxy Theatre Group hope to aid those in Haiti still trying to rebuild their lives and still living without basic necessities.
